PRIDE Program

What does it mean to get a PRIDE ticket?
At the start of each school year and continuing throughout the year, the staff at Columbia Heights Elementary teach students what behaviors they expect and reward these expectations.

Staff give out PRIDE tickets throughout the building to students demonstrating these positive PRIDE behaviors. Students then place PRIDE tickets in their classroom box. Each week, teachers draw two names from their classroom PRIDE box and submit these names to the office. They can choose to put them in their classroom bucket for pride recess or bring them to the office for a prize and a chance to win pizza with the principal once a month. Students whose names are drawn earn a special extra recess with our principal and their names are submitted to the The Daily News Chalk Talk.

In addition to the weekly PRIDE award, there is also a monthly PRIDE award. Every month, teachers select one student for academic achievement and two students for PRIDE behavior. Each of these students will be recognized at a school gathering and will receive a Columbia Heights buttons and erasers.

What does it mean to sign the “Book of Excellence?”
Students sign the “Book of Excellence” when they are recognized for positive behaviors. The book is located in the office.
